Norfolk, VA â Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Virginia Jay Jones today released the following statement after more than 20 attorneys general nationwide sued the Trump administration for unlawfully freezing after-school and summer program funding:
âOnce again, Jason Miyares has refused to stand up for Virginia families â skipping out on another critical lawsuit at the expense of thousands of Virginia students to appease Donald Trump.
âBy freezing over $6 billion in funds for after-school and summer programs, the Trump administration is not just playing politics â it is punishing children, especially those from low-income and rural communities. But after his consistent efforts to dismantle the Department of Education, this is no surprise â nor is Jason Miyaresâ choice to align with MAGA extremism over doing whatâs best for Virginia kids.
âIt should go without saying: our children’s education is not political, and taking away resources from low-income families who struggle to find affordable, quality childcare is just wrong. As a father of two young boys, I know how important these programs are, and as Attorney General, I will always put Virginia families first in protecting the critical programs and resources that they rely on.â
