Senator Barbara Favola, Chairwoman Phyllis Randall, and Local Northern Virginia Leaders Join Virginians for Jay Jones

A growing group of Virginia leaders urge Jay Jones to seek the Democratic nomination for Attorney General in 2025

Norfolk, VA — Today, Senator Barbara Favola, Chairwoman Phyllis Randall, and three additional Northern Virginia leaders joined a growing number of Virginians for JayJones as supporters to encourage Jay Jones to seek the Democratic nomination for Attorney General in 2025.

“I am proud to join the growing list of more than 70 current and former elected leaders from across the Commonwealth urging Jay Jones to run for Attorney General,” said Senator Barbara Favola. “Jay is not only the best candidate to defeat Republican extremism at the polls next November, but he is also the best leader to protect Virginians‘ freedoms, safety, and well-being as our Attorney General. I know we can count on Jay Jones to defend our reproductive rights, keep Virginians safe from gun violence, and improve the well-being of all Virginia children. I wholeheartedly endorse him to be our next Attorney General.”

These elected officials join Virginians for Jay Jones co-chairs former Governor Ralph Northam, former First Lady Pam Northam, Senator Lashrecse Aird, Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg, Delegate Alex Askew, Delegate Paul Krizek, former Delegate Jeff Bourne, and Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano alongside 46 other current and former members of the General Assembly and local officials in this effort, including 25 previously announced supporters from Northern Virginia.

About Jay Jones

Jay Jones is an attorney at Hogan Lovells, a global law firm, where he focuses his practice on state Attorneys General work as well as regulatory and policy matters, including environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues. He is an accomplished litigator with extensive trial experience in state court. He served in the House of Delegates from 2018-2021 where he fought to expand Medicaid, increase the minimum wage, and raise teacher pay. Jay also championed legislation known as the “Ashanti Alert,” a bill to establish a missing persons alert for adults in the Commonwealth, which was used as the model for a bill that eventually became federal law.

After serving in the House, Jay served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where he was a member of the Office of Consumer Protection. Jones lives in Norfolk with his wife Mavis and son, Charles.
